The standard arrangement across this neighborhood is a built-in doing the cold work on one wall and a separate cooking suite doing the heat on another: a range or a rangetop, wall ovens beside or beneath it, a hood, and increasingly an induction top where a remodel went electric. Those are two entirely different machines that happen to wear matching stainless, and it is worth knowing which one you are calling about. No Sub-Zero has ever carried a burner, and no Wolf has ever carried a compressor, whatever the matching finish across the room implies.
The mix shifts by tract, which is unusual enough to be useful. The older Carmel Valley streets run heavily to stainless Classic built-ins of a single generation, often beside cooking equipment that has never been changed, so whole blocks arrive at the same wear points in the same season. Pacific Highlands Ranch, Del Mar Mesa and Torrey Highlands lean toward integrated columns behind custom panels, paired refrigerator and freezer towers, undercounter drawers set into the island and a dishwasher hidden behind cabinetry as well. The professional ranges and the more heavily electronic lines mostly turn up in kitchens remodeled some years after the house was finished.

Cubes had been getting smaller and hollower for months and I was ready to pay for a new ice maker. He checked the water first and found it was plumbed into the reverse osmosis tap under the sink. Nothing was actually broken. Slightly embarrassing, mostly a relief.
